Because an EV doesn't have a large combustion engine and gearbox, space can be used differently. That gives, among other things, a frunk (front trunk) and a flat floor in the cabin. Here's how the space is distributed across the models.
Frunk — the front trunk
All Tesla models have a frunk where the engine would otherwise be. It's ideal for charging cables, smaller bags and shopping you want to keep separate from the rest. The size varies by model.
Space per model (overview)
| Model | Space and practicality |
|---|---|
| Model 3 | Spacious sedan with a large boot + frunk; good for most families. |
| Model Y | SUV with a large, deep boot, flat load floor with seats folded + frunk; very flexible. |
| Model S | Luxury sedan with a large boot + frunk. |
| Model X | Most space and up to six or seven seats; falcon-wing doors ease access. |
To compare the two most popular directly, see Model 3 vs Model Y. The exact litre figures are set by Tesla and can vary by variant — see tesla.com for numbers.
Practical details
- Folding rear seats: give a long load space for larger items.
- Under-floor storage (especially the Model Y) for extra items.
- Hooks and nets help keep things tidy — see accessories.
Which suits you?
If you need maximum flexibility and a higher seating position, that points to the Model Y (or Model X for the largest needs). If a spacious sedan is enough, the Model 3 is an efficient and affordable choice.
