Tesla Model Y — complete guide

The Model Y is Tesla's spacious SUV and one of the best-selling cars in the world. Here's the overview of variants, range, space and charging — and who it suits.

The Tesla Model Y shares much of its technology with the Model 3, but packages it in a taller, more spacious SUV body. That gives easier entry, more boot space and a higher driving position — without compromising on range and charging speed. That's a big part of why the Model Y has become so popular with families.

Variants

The lineup varies over time and by market, but in 2026 it includes, among others:

Space and practicality

The Model Y offers a large boot with extra under-floor storage, a frunk and a flat load floor when the rear seats are folded. The standard model seats five, while the Model Y L offers six seats. For many, it's exactly the space that makes the difference versus the Model 3.

Range and charging

The newest Long Range RWD variants are remarkably efficient and go far on a charge. The Model Y charges quickly on the Supercharger network (around 250 kW on supported variants), and day to day most owners charge at home. The referral program typically gives free Supercharging on the Model Y — see the current referral benefits.

Who is the Model Y for?

The Model Y is the obvious choice if you want more space, a higher seating position and flexibility for family and leisure, while still valuing Tesla's efficiency and software. If you want a lower, slightly cheaper car, the Model 3 is the alternative.
