Tesla Model 3 — complete guide

The Model 3 is Tesla's best-selling car and, for many, the obvious entry into the EV world. Here's the overview of variants, range, charging and who the car suits.

Last verified: 15 June 2026

The Tesla Model 3 is a mid-size sedan that combines good range, fast charging and Tesla's software in a package that is the most accessible in the lineup on price. The model has received several updates over the years — in design, noise insulation and efficiency — and remains one of the most popular choices among new Tesla buyers.

Variants

The Model 3 typically comes in several variants. The exact lineup and naming can vary over time and from market to market, but the main lines are:

VariantIn brief
Standard / RWDThe entry model with rear-wheel drive — the cheapest way in, often with an LFP battery.
Long Range RWDRear-wheel drive with a larger battery and longer range.
Long Range AWDTwo motors, all-wheel drive and quicker acceleration.
PerformanceThe sporty top with the most performance and a sport suspension.

Range

WLTP range for the entry model is around 500+ km, while the Long Range variants go further. Remember that WLTP is a standardised lab test: real-world range depends on speed, temperature, tyres and driving style — and typically drops in winter. Use WLTP to compare variants, not as a guarantee of everyday range.

Check the current figures

Tesla regularly adjusts batteries, efficiency and therefore range. The exact WLTP figures and prices for your configuration are always on tesla.com.

Charging

The Model 3 charges quickly on Tesla's Supercharger network (up to around 250 kW on the supported variants), and day to day most owners charge at home via a wallbox or a regular outlet. Overnight home charging is typically the cheapest and most convenient solution. Read more about the referral benefit with free Supercharging, which often applies to the Model 3.

Interior and technology

The cabin is minimalist with a central touchscreen that controls almost everything. The car receives over-the-air (OTA) updates, so features can improve after you've bought it. Expect good space for a family, a large boot and a frunk (front trunk).

Who is the Model 3 for?

The Model 3 is a strong choice if you want an efficient, tech-heavy EV for commuting and longer trips without paying the higher price of the larger models. If you need more space and a higher seating position, the Model Y may be a better match — see our other guides.
