Short answer (October 2026)

Tesla offers private car loans through Santander Consumer Bank and DNB Finans. If you order from 1 October 2026 and take delivery by 31 March 2027, the rate is 1.99 % fixed. You have to apply for the financing by 31 December 2026. In Tesla's own example over 96 months, the APR is 3.67 %.

Tesla's own example

This is the representative example Tesla shows in its Danish configurator for a Model 3 at a cash price of DKK 269,990. I've put it in a table, but the figures are Tesla's:

Cash priceDKK 269,990
Down paymentDKK 53,998 (20 %)
Total credit amountDKK 215,992
Term96 months
Fixed borrowing rate1.99 %
APR (ÅOP)3.67 %
Monthly paymentDKK 2,587
Total cost of creditDKK 33,110
Total amount payableDKK 303,100

Source: Tesla's configurator on tesla.com/da_dk, "Finansieringsmuligheder" for a private loan, October 2026. The campaign rate applies to cars ordered on or after 1 October 2026 and delivered by 31 March 2027, while stocks last. Tesla may change or end the campaign without notice.

Note the difference between the two rates. The 1.99 % borrowing rate is the interest on the loan itself. The 3.67 % APR also includes the loan's costs, and it's the number to use when you compare with other loans.

In kroner, borrowing just over DKK 216,000 for eight years costs DKK 33,110 in total.

Terms worth knowing

  • Credit check: the loan requires a positive credit assessment by the lenders.
  • Comprehensive insurance: the car must have kasko cover for as long as the loan runs. What that costs on a Tesla is covered in the Tesla insurance guide.
  • Direct debit: payments are collected through Betalingsservice.
  • Right of withdrawal: you have 14 days to withdraw from the loan.
  • Early repayment: always possible, but it costs 1 % of the outstanding balance plus a DKK 750 administration fee. With DKK 150,000 left to pay, that's DKK 2,250.

Watch out for the "estimated" payment

Tesla's loan window has a box labelled Inkluder estimerede brændstofbesparelser (include estimated fuel savings). Tick it and Tesla subtracts an estimated saving on petrol from the monthly payment, DKK 1,258 a month in the example above. That makes the loan look cheaper than it is. The saving is an estimate, and the lender collects DKK 2,587 regardless. Leave the box unticked when you budget, and work out running costs yourself with the Tesla total cost of ownership guide.

Tesla loan or bank loan?

A fixed rate of 1.99 % is low for a car loan. It's still worth getting a quote from your own bank, because:

  • The down payment can differ. Tesla asks for 20 %, which is the legal minimum in Denmark when the seller keeps retention of title in the car (section 34 of the Credit Agreements Act). A bank has no such legal requirement, although many will want a down payment too.
  • Campaigns can rule each other out. According to teslatips.dk, the trade-in bonus Tesla offers on the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive in Q4 2026 can't be combined with Tesla's own financing. If you have a car to trade in, run the numbers both ways. More in trading in your car with Tesla.
  • Compare APR over the same term. That's FDM's advice, and it's the only figure that accounts for fees.

If you don't want to own the car at all, leasing is a different route. I go through the trade-offs in leasing vs buying, and private leasing has its own guide, Tesla private leasing.

How to apply

Choose "Privat: Lån" under the financing options when you configure the car. There you can change the down payment and term and see the monthly payment before you order, and you can request a trade-in estimate from the same window. To get the campaign rate, the loan must be applied for by 31 December 2026. The referral code has to be used before you order. The full sequence is in how to buy a Tesla in Denmark.
